What actually is BlakTail?
A way to link your organisation's computers, phones and offices into one private network over the internet. Staff anywhere can safely open office files and systems as if they were in the building.
Why would we need it?
If staff work from home, travel, or sit across several sites, BlakTail gives them one safe way in — instead of emailing files around, risky remote-access tools, or leaving office systems exposed to the whole internet.
Do our staff need tech skills?
No. Staff install a small program, click connect, and work normally. Approving a new device is a click in a web page for your IT person.
Is our data sent overseas?
No. BlakTail runs on computers you control in Australia. There is no BlakTail cloud holding your files or details.
Is it a monthly service?
The software itself is free and open source — you only pay for whatever computers you run it on. Buying through AWS Marketplace adds tidier billing plus our help, and funds further development.
What do we get with your help?
We set BlakTail up inside your environment with you, lock the settings down properly, and monitor it with you. You deal directly with the people who build it.
Which computers and phones does it work on?
Work laptops and servers (Linux and Mac), iPhones, and a web page for managing it all. The main service runs on computers you control or in your AWS account.
Is it finished?
It's early days and still improving — the project page is honest about what's proven and what isn't. Marketplace customers get our help navigating that.
